Nigeria U-23 Team Threaten to Boycott Q-Final Match Over Unpaid Allowances

The Nigerian U-23 team a.k.a the ‘Dream Team’ under the tutelage of Samson Siasia, who have been great in the tournament might not play Denmark on Saturday.

The team is reportedly threatening to boycott their quarter-final match against Denmark if they are not paid their allowances.

According to the Vanguard, sources from the U-23 team’s camp claim that the threatened boycott is also due to unpaid five-month salaries and allowances of the coaches which the NFF president, Amaju Pinnick has directed the secretariat to settle with the $60,000 grant received from CAF recently.

It will be recalled that coach Samson Siasia recently complained that he’d not been paid in 5 months and it seems the team is now rallying behind their manager.

Online sources have quoted a source in the U-23 dressing room as saying, “The players said that their level of patriotism has already dwindled because of the way they have been treated by the government officials prior to the Olympic Games.

“As we speak now, the only money that the players have received was the $150 dollars per day for 11 days, while there are more than that 11 days still to be paid and no extra money was received for the matches played so far”,
