Nigeria Will Soon Get New Telecoms Industry Master Plan – Shittu

The Minister of Communications, Barr Adebayo Shittu, has disclosed the Federal Government’s resolve to develop a master plan for the development of the telecommunications industry.

While speaking to the media in Ibadan, Oyo State, he said the government was looking at a situation where the telecoms industry will surpass the petroleum industry as Nigeria’s highest revenue generator.

According to Shittu, the unveiling of the master plan is expected to take place in the next four weeks.

“The telecommunication sector is a better alternative to oil in terms of revenue generation,” he quipped.

The former Attorney General of Oyo State assured Nigerians that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari will enact he appropriate enabling laws to ensure proper guidance of the industry.

Shittu noted: “If the telecommunication sector is fully explored, it could provide many job opportunities. Our responsibility is to ensure that we have the best operating laws for the telecommunication industry. Within the next three to four weeks, we will come up with the master plan for the telecommunication sector.”
