Nigerian billionaire, Dozy Mmobuosi is set to buy English football club, Sheffield United in a deal worth £90 million.

The tech entrepreneur’s acquisition of the Bramall Lane club is reportedly in the final stages.

If successful, the deal could bring a new lease of life to the club hit by a transfer embargo last month amid financial difficulties, Times UK reported.

According to the report, Mmobuosi still needs to pass the English Football League (EFL) owners’ and directors’ test, although “no problems have arisen” so far.

Sheffield United’s financial situation became public knowledge recently as current Saudi owner, Prince Abdullah bin Musa’ad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, displayed readiness to sell the following his struggle to maintain the funding needed to keep the team going.

American businessman Henry Mauriss was close to buying the club for £100 million in 2022 but the deal ultimately fell through due to the complex financial structure he was using to try and purchase the Yorkshire club.

Sheffield United currently place second on the English Championship table with a 13-point cushion over the third-placed Middleborough FC and could witness a financial turnaround should they gain promotion to the English Premier Leagie.
