A Nigerian man, Michael Adebowale, who bagged a 45-year jail term for killing white UK soldier, Lee Rigby is presently down with COVID-19.

The 29-year-old’s condition is said to be serious and he has been placed on oxygen in a COVID-19 ward after being taken from the high-security psychiatric hospital in Crowthorne, Berkshire.

It is the second time that Adebowale, who contracted the virus two weeks ago, has been hospitalised in recent days, The Sun UK reported.

Adebowale and his accomplice Michael Adebolajo killed father-of-one Rigby by stabbing him to death in broad daylight after running the 25-year-old over close to a military barracks in London in May 2013.

Fusilier Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was off duty and walking along Wellington Street when he was attacked.

The incident was linked to Islamic fundamentalism.

Adebowale was born in the UK to protestant Nigerian parents before converting to Islam, adopting the name Ismaail Kuti.

He was reportedly seeking a prisoner-swap deal to Kirikiri prisons in Lagos, Nigeria, which failed.

Rigby’s 53-year-old mother, Lyn, said it would “not be just for Covid to take this man (Adebowale) prematurely and end the sentence handed to him”.
