Nigerian National Falls to His Death Trying to Escape from Police in India

A man said to be a Nigerian national fell to his death from a three story building in India while trying to escape a police raid. The man identified as 35 year old Patrick Ojana fell to his death in a bid to escape a drug raid being carried out by the Indian Police.

The Nigerian was allegedly involved in a narcotics racket, which was why he ran when the police raided the hideout of his gang, falling off the three-storeyed building while trying to escape arrest on Thursday night.

Reacting to the information the police commissioner for the city of Hyderabad P. Anjani Kumar told local media that a team of task force police had raided the Sri Sai Apartments at Ayodhya Nagar under Asifnagar police station limits, after a tip off that a group of Nigerians were engaged in illicit drug trade in the area.

The Indian police had initially arrested three other Nigerians during an earlier raid and discovered 20 grams of cocaine in their possession after which they were taken in for questioning.

The Police team however raided the apartment for a second time acting on the information it got from the three suspects already in their custody.

According to the police commissioner;

“There was another Nigerian, Ojana, who was hiding in the house. He tried to escape from the spot by sliding down a pipe from the building but slipped midway and fell down. The police shifted the severely injured Ojana to Osmania General Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.”

Local media reported that the deceased already had drug cases pending against him in other police jurisdictions including, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills police stations.

The police commissioner said further that the task force police had been conducting regular search operations to prevent smuggling of drugs and narcotics into the city by Nigerians.

He further appealed to the Hyderabad public to be vigilant about the illegal activities of Nigerians and inform police whenever they discover suspicious movements.
