A Nigerian Olympic legend, Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara, has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police in a quiet event that held in the Police College Ikeja.

Recall that Okpara is also Nigeria’s only Gold medallist at the Olympics, achieving the feat in Atlanta 96 in the Long jump event.

She has since then launched a foundation with the aim of taking Nigerian sports to greater heights.

Speaking on her promotion and the delight that comes with it, Director General of Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara Foundation, Prince Henry Amike reminded everyone of her feat and was grateful to the Police Service Commission for recognising her.

“Till date, this is the only lady who has won an individual Olympics Gold Medal for Nigeria and the International Olympics Committee (IOC), has not said otherwise, why she’s being ostracized still remains a mystery to some of us. But thank God the Police Service Commission knows her worth and I think overtime Nigerians will appreciate this great athlete, who played football, jumped and ran for the nation”. he said.
