Nigerian striker, Isaac Promise dies at 31

Isaac Promise was the captain of the Nigeria dream team that won silver medal at the 2008 Olympics and was also the captain of the Nigerian 2005 under 20 team that made it to the final at the Netherlands.

His club, American side Austin Bold, said that he passed away on Wednesday night but offered no explanation as to the cause.

He spent much of his career in Turkey, with Trabzonspor among his former clubs, and also had a brief spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli.

Former West Ham defender Anton Ferdinand was among those to pay tribute.

“I’m in shock,” he wrote on Instagram. “You were my room mate at Antalyaspor. RIP Isaac Promise. Rest well bro my prayers are with your family and friends at this time.”

The Nigerian Football Federation through their Twitter handle express their condolences. It said,  We are sad to hear of the sudden demise of former @NGSuperEagles forward, Isaac Promise. Promise was captain of the Beijing Olympics’ Eagles squad that won silver. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. May his soul Rest In Peace, Amen.
