Rev. Adewale Elias, Zonal Superintendent, Foursquare Gospel Church, Cement Zonal Headquarters, on Sunday appealed to Christians to fight the spate of cyber and internet frauds in the country.

Adewale, while delivering a sermon with the theme: “Spread Out,” urged Christians to be concerned about the vices and adopt measures to arrest the ugly trend.

He said social media had its advantages which were beneficial but noted that it also had some disadvantages that could increase some societal ills.

The zonal superintendent called for pragmatic actions such as spreading the gospel by the church to curb the menace.

The cleric said that several businesses were gaining grounds through the social media, saying that with time some old traditional ways of doing business like street trading would disappear.

He explained that several people had been duped through the social media vices, leading to internet and cybercrimes because of desperation to make quick money.

“Worldly things are taking the word from a lot of people. Why are we losing people to the world? Social Media; technology and social media are taking away the people.

“We should have concern for the people out there smoking Indian hemp, going into occultism, internet fraud, cybercrimes which we call Yahoo-Yahoo, all because of money.

“Let us be focused on how to save those souls being lost because of technology. The concern for souls should be our focus, don’t be happy about the evil they are doing.

“We should be concerned about their salvation, we should pray and go after those lost souls,” he said.

Reading from the book of 1st Corinthians, he advised Christians to ignore the pains of recession which were temporary and be focused on doing what was right.

“Soldiers of the Lord must be ready to endure hardship. As soldiers struggle to please the Lord don’t yield to temporary pain, it cannot kill you,” he said. (NAN)
