The declaration by Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State that his administration spends about N400,000 to treat each COVID-19 patient is generating reactions from Nigerians on social media.
El-Rufai made the disclosure at the executive committee meeting of northern traditional rulers in Kaduna on Monday.
He called on the traditional rulers led by Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, to lead campaigns to halt the spread of the virus, describing the amount spent on patient care as expensive and putting pressure on the government’s purse.
El-Rufai said it was therefore important that people changed their attitudes towards the virus.

The Herald can report that the traditional rulers from the 19 states in the north converged on Kaduna to address socio-economic and security challenges bedevilling the region.
But reacting on social media, some users queried the figure released by the governor.
