Nigerien Troops Allegedly Kill More Than 100 Bandits in Nigerian Territory

Nigerien soldiers are believed to have killed over 100 bandits at the border towns between Nigeria and Niger Republic in Sokoto State.

According to a report by HumAngle, the troops from Niger Republic, attacked bandit camps at 3:15 am on Monday.

According to residents, the Nigeriens attacked the bandits at Burqusuma community on the border between both West African countries.

While the Nigerian Army as well as the Niger Republic Armed forces are yet to confirm the incident, several residents including the Chairman of the Movement for Social Justice, Sokoto, Altine Isa confirmed the development.

“The troops arrived in large numbers in the middle of the night when the bandits were probably sleeping in their camps, they attacked and killed over 100 bandits, as a result, burnt their motorcycles and arrested many of them,” Altine said.

He said further that the attack lasted for hours and ended in the death of hundreds of bandits and the arrest of several others as well as an informant, Sarkin Fawa Shago who is now in the custody of the Niger Military.

Another resident identified as Magaji also confirmed the incident saying it wasn’t the first time the Nigeriens would come to their rescue.

“When the military arrived, we all ran away, this is not the first time Niger military is coming to our community in pursuit of terrorists.”

He said he wasn’t aware of any civilian casualties but some of the bandits escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.

So, I don’t know if there are any civilian casualties yet because most of us fled to safety and still assessing the situation.” he said further.

Others sources who also confirmed the incident said the Nigerien Troops were protecting their communities from bandit attacks from the Sabo Birni Local Government area of Sokoto State.
