NNPP Apologises to Tinubu, APC Over Kwankwaso’s Attacks, Affirms His Expulsion

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has issued a public apology to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), disowning recent critical statements made by its 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In a statement released Sunday in Lagos, the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Oginni Olaposi, described Kwankwaso’s remarks as “unwarranted insults” and clarified that the former Kano State governor no longer has any affiliation with the party.
“We hereby tender an unreserved apology to President Tinubu and the entire APC family, led by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for the unwarranted insults, abuse, and maligning statements issued by Kwankwaso,” Olaposi said.
According to Olaposi, the party has officially severed ties with Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiya Movement, following the termination of the Memorandum of Understanding between both parties. He emphasized that Kwankwaso’s expulsion from the NNPP remains valid and warned him against using the party’s name to launch political attacks.
“Kwankwaso should stop parading himself as a member of our party and using the NNPP’s name to attack the APC and the Presidency,” he stated. “He was expelled long ago and should look inwards rather than blame others if his followers are now joining the APC.”
Olaposi also stressed that the NNPP, under the leadership of its founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, is focused on constructive national development, not divisive political rhetoric.
“Dr. Aniebonam has never been known for making reckless statements against constituted authorities in Nigeria,” he added.
He reiterated that Kwankwaso’s recent comments do not reflect the views or position of the NNPP, describing them as personal opinions of an expelled member.
Backing the party’s stance with legal precedent, Olaposi referenced several court rulings — including a judgment by the Abuja High Court on April 3, and rulings from Abia State and FCT High Courts — which upheld Kwankwaso’s expulsion.
He urged the media and the public to cease linking Kwankwaso with the NNPP.
“Kwankwaso is the leader of the Kwankwasiya Movement, not the NNPP,” Olaposi concluded.
