The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has prohibited night grazing of cattle by its members nationwide.

Addressing newsmen, National Secretary of Miyetti Allah, Mr. Baba Uthman, said that the measure became necessary to curb incessant herdsmen-farmers clashes across Nigeria.

Uthman said the decision was taken at the association’s Annual General Meeting in Damaturu on Wednesday.

According to him, the decision will be communicated as an instruction to the group’s members across the country.

The Miyetti Allah scribe said, “This is a decision that has been taken by the highest decision-making body of the association. As it is taken here, it will go down the ladder down to our members at the grassroots.

“They will be informed and sensitised concerning it.”

He further revealed that MACBAN has banned grazing of cattle by minors and hawking of milk by teenage girls.

Reacting to the ban on night grazing, Igbo apex socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo described it as a “welcome development”.

The Deputy Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chuks Ibegbu said, “My thinking is that banning of night grazing is a wonderful development; it is a welcome development that should be encouraged.”

However, he urged Miyetti Allah to go a step further by identifying the “bag eggs” among its members and hand them over to law enforcement agents.
