Friday 1st of July and Monday 4th of July have been declared as public holidays by the Abia state government in honor of late politician, Hon. Ojo Maduekwe, whose death was announced yesterday.

Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia State made this known eulogizing the elder statesman as a man who  accomplished so much in his time including bringing peace to Abia state.

Ikpeazu also urged the people of Abia to pray for the family  left behind,  who were grieving the death of the great man.

Ikpeazu himself is in the middle of a tug-of-war for the position of Governor after Ogah was issued a certificate of return by INEC even as Ikpeazu claimed he had already appealed to the court who ruled that he was to vacate office.
