Veteran Nollywood actor and comedian Okey Bakassi has officially been crowned the traditional ruler of his hometown, Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Mbaise, Imo State.

In a cultural ceremony rich with Igbo tradition, Bakassi—whose full name is Okechukwu Onyegbule—was conferred the title “His Royal Highness Eze Okechukwu Onyegbule, the Okwe II of Umuihuocha Obohia.” A video from the coronation, shared by the actor on his Instagram page on Tuesday, showed the elaborate festivities surrounding his installation as king.

“Special presentation as King (Eze) of Umuihuocha community,” Bakassi captioned the post, which has since attracted thousands of congratulatory comments from fans, colleagues, and well-wishers.

The coronation comes less than two weeks after Bakassi publicly announced his appointment as the traditional ruler. Known for his longstanding contributions to Nigerian film and comedy, Bakassi now adds a royal title to his name, joining the growing list of entertainers who have assumed traditional leadership roles in their communities.
