US Analysts warn that Kim Jong-Un could be laying a trap for the US and South Korea with his apparent feigned friendship towards Seoul.

Kim Jong on New Year’s Day said “the country had completed its nuclear deterrent — Pyongyang says it needs to defend itself against a US invasions” he added “I have a nuclear button on my desk”.

At the same time he said Pyongyang could send athletes to the Winter Olympics ithe South is hosting next month and is happy to conduct talks with the South.

North Korea has so far acted indifferent towards South Korea and its President Moon Jae-In’s, who have tried engaging with North Korea many times in the past all to no avail.

Since then the North and South have been in communication and Kim has agreed to meet with Moon Jae-In next week in the Demilitarized Zone that divides the peninsula Panmunjom, while the US has agreed to stop their joint military drills until after the Olympics and Paralympics as they would only serve to infuriate Pyongyang

Pyongyang who in the past have said they will turn Seoul into a “sea of fire” is now deferring to Moon as “president”, and expressing a desire for North-South relationships to improve.

Sceptics believe this is all a ploy by Kim to divide the Allies.

The US has 28,500 troops stationed in the South to defend it from the North at a time when the international community should remain united in putting pressure and sanctions on the North over its weapons programmes.

Park Won-Gon Handong University political science professor stated “It’s quite obvious that Kim’s New Year speech is aimed at driving a wedge between the US and the South.

“What is important for the South is not to play into the hands of the North.”
