North will always decide who becomes Nigeria’s president – APC chief

Basheer Garba Umar, National Coordinator, Buhari Mass Movement (BMM), an NGO that campaigned for President Muhammadu Buhari’s elections in 2015 election and 2019, has said that the North will always determine who becomes Nigeria’s president.

Umar, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) based in Kaduna, said this was so because democracy is a game of numbers.

He stated this while reacting to a statement credited to National President, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Abdullahi Bodejo, proposing 100,000 vigilantes of Fulani extraction to provide security across Nigeria.

Bodejo was also quoted as saying that the country belongs to the Fulani, a statement he has since denied.

In an interview with Saturday Sun, Umar said that the North could keep the Presidency forever as it has more voters than the South.

“I want to add here that the entire statement credited to Miyetti Allah leader is his personal opinion. I remember when former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was in power, someone from South-South and another from South-East said power will never be back to the north. That was wishful thinking.

“When we said power can be retained in the north forever, we are referring to numbers. If democracy is a game of numbers the north can continually find its way to retain the Presidency,” Umar said,
