The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has warned those expecting the North to cede power to the South in 2023 to forget it as the North still wants to retain the presidency.

President of the forum, Shettima Yerima, who disclosed this on Tuesday in an interview, said Southern politicians expecting to gain power in 2023 should have a rethink.

The AYCF boss said it was inconceivable that the South, which already controls the economy of the nation, would still want to recover political power from the north.

Yerima said that if the North would relinquish it would be to the likes of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, which it trusts.

“How can you think we will cede power to the South in 2023? The North still wants the presidency. The south is in charge of the economy and they have everything, so why would they want to take away the only thing we have. What would you call that? Even if we are ceding power to the south in 2023, we should be considering people like Orji Uzor Kalu. He is someone the north trusts and the Northern elders will give him their full support. Most Nigerians don’t know that Kalu’s incarceration emanated from conspiracy and betrayal from his own party, the APC,” he said.

The AYCF president said that some Ohanaeze Ndigbo and APC chieftains betrayed the former Abia state governor.

He also thanked Northern elders for standing solidly behind Kalu during his incarceration at Kuje Custodial Centre.

He thanked the Supreme Court justices and Justice Muhammed Liman of the Federal High Court for upholding the course of justice.
