The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it will partner with the Nigeria Communication Satellite (NigComSat) on the deployment of modern ICT Technology to monitor the nations’ infrastructure.

The Commandant-General of the Corps, Abdullahi Gana, made this known during a visit to the NigComSat Headquarters on Wednesday in Abuja.

Gana said that as part of the Corps mandate as the leading Agency in the protection of critical infrastructure and national Assets, it would be better to partner with an indigenous company such as NigComSat.

According to him, presently NSCDC is operating a Command and Control Centre set up by an Israel Company, Starter Point, in Abuja and Bayelsa to monitor pipelines against vandalism, oil bunkering and oil theft.

“Therefore, we intend to establish additional command and control centres for the purpose of monitoring our operations in the North-East and other parts of the country,” Gana said

He said that the Corps was in charge of monitoring, registering and supervising of Private Guards Companies, inspection of the premises, training facilities and approving them if up to standard for licencing.

Gana said that the Corps was working tirelessly in order to have a Biometric Data of all the Private Guards Companies personnel in Nigeria for the purpose of accountability.

The NSCDC boss added that the NSCDC would not hesitate to seal up any Private Guards Company operating without a valid license or found involved in any other act negating the terms of reference of its operation.

Gana also disclosed that the corps had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to protect cattle ranches by using Geo-fencing and technologies to monitor and guard against clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

“This will also curtail incidences of cattle rustling,” he said.

Responding, the Managing Director of NigComSat, Mrs Abimbola Alule, assured the commandant-general of the company’s continuous support and collaboration to move the country forward.

Alule also said that the organisation was ready to partner with the Corps in different ways, especially having been briefed on the Corps mandate and its enormous task.

She also assured the Corps on the use of Sim-less Communication Technology across the Commands, Biometrics for all the Personnel and with the use of X-band solution.

“This will avail the corps of the opportunity of using parameter fencing for the cattle ranches with chips round the cattle neck for identification,’’ she said. (NAN)
