Popular singer, Wyclef Jean has revealed how he was briefly detained by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department who were searching for a criminal.
Writing on his Instagram, the former Fugees singer said he was accosted by the officers who ordered him out of his car and then proceeded to cuff him. “I was asked by the police to Put my hands up. Then I was told do not move. I was instantly handcuffed before being asked to identify myself,” he tweeted today.
The Diallo singer continued, “In the process, I said my name and told them they have the wrong person. They proceeded to ignore me and I was treated like a criminal until other police showed up and pointed out they had [the] wrong person.”

NBC News contacted the LAPD for comment and the department stated that a black man wearing a red bandana robbed a gas station at around 1 am in the West Hollywood area. The suspect fled in a gold or tan Toyota sedan. Wyclef Jean had on a red bandana and was ordered out of his own car, but was subsequently released when it was confirmed he wasn’t the suspect.
Now, Wyclef, who is set to work with Nigeria’s Asa, says he will sue the police for the unfair treatment. “Just so you all know: I am going to sue the LAPD,” he said in the video. “You put the cuffs on me?”
