OAU lecturer regains freedom from kidnappers’ den

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, has said that the suicide committed recently by a student of the university was not as a result of academic failure.

The abducted lecturer of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof Olayinka Adegbehingbe, has been released.

Adegbehingbe, a lecturer in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was kidnapped on Sunday evening along Ile-Ife/Ibadan expressway around,  Ikoyi, Osun state.

There was no immediate information on whether a ransom was paid for his release or not.

Moses Olafare, the Director of Media, Ooni Palace, Ile Ife, said that Adegbehingbe’s wife, Bernice, confirmed the release of her husband in a telephone conversation on Monday.

“I spoke to the wife and she confirmed that Prof Adegbehingbe had been released. Thanks for your support,” Olafare said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Folasade Odoro, also confirmed that Adegbehingbe had been released.
