Oba Chased Out Of Palace By Youth

Following the spate of alleged strange and unprecedented deaths in the Emure-Ekiti town of Ekiti State in recent times, the aggrieved youths of the community chased the traditional ruler, Oba Emmanuel Adebowale Adebayo out of his palace yesterday.

It was gathered that the youths had stormed the palace of the first-class traditional ruler yesterday seeking an audience with the monarch to explore solutions to strange phenomenon which saw as many as 12 youths die in the past two weeks.

As the youths waited for some time and it had apparent that no positive response was coming from the monarch, a one-time police commissioner, they were said to have lost their temper, causing them to pelt the monarch with sachet water and make bonfire along the roads leading to the palace.

The few chiefs who were in attendance during the encounter were said to have removed their beads and run out of the palace.

The restless youths later marched through the major streets in the town and terminated at the main market, a development that disrupted economic activities in the town to a standstill during the protest.

The chairman of Emure Local Government Area, Mr AdewaleFebisola confirmed the incident and appealed to the aggrieved youths to give peace a chance. Febisola, who has been the local government chairman for just about a week, gave the assurance that the traditional council would meet and find a solution to the problem.

The Public Relations Officer of Ekiti State Police Command ,Mr Victor OluBabayemi also confirmed the incident,saying police are on the top of the problem as he noted that it was the effort of the policemen drafted to the palace that prevented the youths from the further attack on the monarch and the palace

The traditional ruler,Oba Adebayo was said to have relocated to his private residence within the community

As at press time,a  combined team of regular police and Mobile Policemen have taken over the palace ,while relative peace has returned to the one town local government.
