Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described late Senator Buruji Kashamu as an individual that used politics to maneuver the law to escape justice.

He stated this in a condolence message signed by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi in reaction to the death of the senator for Ogun East in the 8th Senate.

The former President was referring to Kashamu’s legal battle against the Federal Government to foil his planned extradition to the United States to face drug-related charges.

Obasanjo said that though the 62-year-old controversial politician escaped justice, he could not beat death.

He said that Kashamu’s ordeal should be a lesson for all mortals.

“Senator Esho Jinadu (Buruji Kashmu) in his lifetime used the maneuver of law and politics to escape from facing justice on alleged criminal offence in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.

“But no legal, political, cultural, social or even medical maneuver could stop the cold hands of death when the Creator of all of us decides that the time is up.

“May Allah forgive his sin and accept his soul into Aljanah, and may God grant his family and friends fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Obasanjo stated.
