The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued certificates of return to the governor-elect, Godwin Obaseki, and deputy governor-elect, Philip Shaibu in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Edo State.

INEC’s National Commissioner supervising Edo, Rivers, and Bayelsa States, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, issued the certificates on Tuesday at the INEC’s office in Benin.

Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated 14 other candidates, including Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to emerge victorious.

Commenting on the conduct of the election, Agbamuche-Mbu lauded the security agencies for their role in ensuring a smooth election on Saturday.

“I hereby certify that Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been elected to the office of governor of Edo State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the election held on the 19th of September 2020,” the INEC commissioner said.
