The perennial crises rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has led the chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, Chief Tony Anenih to meet secretly with former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday in an effort to find lasting solutions to the problems.

Anenih, together with other notable members of the party, including the Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido; former governors of Kastina, Nasarawa and Kaduna states respectively, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema, Abdulai Adamu and Senator Ahmed Makarfi; the secretary of the BoT, Senator Waliu Jubril; the embattled national vice chairman (South-West), Chief Segun Oni; the deposed national auditor, Bode Mustapha and a member of the BoT, Mrs Aduke Maina held the meeting with Obasanjo at the latter’s hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting which lasted for three hours, Anenih said members deliberated on ways to resolve the lingering crisis rocking the party, both at the national and state levels.

He said, “We discussed issues that affect the party itself. I am here to see my leader, I am here to pay my respect and, indeed, I am here with my colleagues, some members of the BoT of our party, to discuss some issues that affect the corporate existence of this country.”

He however refused to reveal the outcome of the meeting, saying it was not for public consumption.

“As you see, we are all smiling, don’t you see me smiling? And my leader too is smiling. So we are quite happy about the outcome. For now, it is not for public consumption,” he said.

He also reacted to media reports credited to the Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, that the party would not win in  the state, saying that the PDP was still a party to beat.

Anenih declined to comment on the proposed amnesty for the  Boko Haram by the presidency, describing it as a security matter.

However, sources at the meeting disclosed to this correspondent that the peace meeting failed in finding a solution to the crises within the party.
