Odemwingie retires from professional football, hints at coaching career

A former Super Eagles Star player, Osaze Odemwingie has announced that he would no longer continue to play professional football. He made the declaration during a UEFA conference in Wembley, yesterday.

The former Stoke Striker, who is now 37 years old, had over 60 appearances for the Super Eagles and socred a good number of decisive goals during that period.

From 2010 to 2016, Osaze equally scored a total of 36 goals in the 129 Premier League games he played in.

The most controversial moment of his career occurred while he was playing for West Brom.

At a time, he was notified of his transfer to another Premier League Club, QPR, hence, he went to finalize the transfer. However, he was denied entry into the premises because the two clubs had not reached an agreement over his transfer fees.

After sharing the news of his retirement, Osaze further explained, “It’s an emotional day, so many memories go through your head.

“I didn’t know how to do it or where to do it, but I think this is the right place to do it. Wembley is a place with a lot of history in football.”

The former striker subsequently explained that he has begun to consider a coaching career, even though it may not happen as soon as he would have wanted.

He said, “The next chapter is slowly building up to a coaching career and hopefully I will be coaching in the Premier League one day.”
