The Vice-Chancellor of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Ile-Ife, Prof. Chibuzo Nwoke, has said that a total of 717 students will graduate during the institution’s 7th convocation ceremony on Thursday.
Nwoke, who stated this at a news conference held at the university’s campus on Wednesday, said that 29 of the graduands would be awarded First Class degrees.
He said that 282 of the students would graduate with Second Class (Upper Division) and 354 with Second Class (Lower Division) while 52 would be awarded Third Class degrees.
The vice-chancellor said that Oba Fredrick Obateru, the Olugbo of Ugbo, would be awarded an honorary doctorate degree during the convocation.
He said that this year’s convocation would mark the 10th anniversary of the university.
Nwoke said that the convocation lecture, focusing on banditry, kidnapping and insurgency in Nigeria, would be delivered by the Executive Vice Chairman, Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy, Prof. Tunji Olaopa.
“As part of the programme, a convocation play entitled: ‘Oya’, will be staged by the Oduduwa University Drama Troupe,” he said.
The vice-chancellor reiterated that the institution had zero tolerance for cultism, hooliganism and other deviant activities.
He called on corporate bodies and philanthropists to assist the university with funds, books, journals, science laboratory equipment, vehicles, power generating sets and air conditioners, among others.
