The 24-year-old French defender’s buyout clause has also increased to €500m.

He said, “I’m very proud to renew with Barça. From my very first day here, I felt like I was at home, and now I want to stay here for much longer.

“I’m very happy here. With the city and the team, I’ve earned everyone’s trust. I just couldn’t leave. This is my home.

“My dream is to continue playing on the best team in the world. I’m very proud to renew.”

Barcelona president, Bartomeu described the player as an “important” player that has established himself at the club.

He said, “this is a very special day, because Samuel is continuing his commitment with the Club.

“This is great news for Barça fans … Umtiti is a very important player who has established himself.

“Without him, the team is not the same, and that’s why we have extended his deal.”

Umtiti, who scored the opening goal in France’s 3-1 victory over Italy on Friday, joined Barcelona from Lyon in 2016.

He has scored 2 goals in 88 appearances at the heart of Barca’s defence, where he has formed an incredible partnership with Gerard Pique.
