Nigeria’s Legendary number 10 Austin Jay Jay Okocha has been named the most prolific dribbler in the world cup in 52 years.

The 44-year-old is almost synonymous with the art of dribbling something he did a lot of both on the European and International stage.

It was this aspect of his game that enthralled people so much and it’s one of the things he’s most popular for.

Now he has officially been named as the man with the highest number of dribbles in a World Cup game in 52 years with 15 dribbles.

This stat comes courtesy of sports facts and stats website Opta Sports on their verified Twitter handle Optajoe.

Optajoe tweeted: 15 – Since 1966, the most dribbles completed in a World Cup match is 15, by Jay Jay Okocha for Nigeria against Italy in July 1994. Showboat. #OptaWCCountdown

The Nigeria-Italy match was in the second round of the world cup and while Italy had a red card and Nigeria scored first, the West African nation still somehow contrived to lose the game 2-1 therefore crashing out of the competition.

Roberto Baggio scored both Italy goals after Emmanuel Amuneke had given the Eagles a first-half lead.

Okocha was, however, part of the squad that won gold in the Atlanta 96 Olympics overcoming Argentina and Brazil on their way to the gold medal.
