Oldest Nigerian Army Soldier, Adama Aduku Dies At 101

The oldest retired officer of the Nigerian army, Adama Aduku, has died at the age of 101.

This was announced on Wednesday by the army authorities on Twitter.

The deceased soldier was born in 1918 to a farmer at Abejukolo-Ife, Kogi state and joined the army in 1945.

Adama Aduku was believed to have fought for the British colonial army in Burma and Egypt during the second world war II.

In 2019, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo presented an award of excellence to Aduku at the Nigerian army day celebrations in Lagos.

One of Aduku’s Relations,  Nats Odaudu wrote: “This gallant soldier could not make it into 2020. We lost him yesterday. Rest In Peace, great uncle”
However, some Nigerians have reacted to his death on social media, asking the Federal Government to finance his funeral and also appreciate his family for his contributions to the country.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
