The general overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Daniel Olukoya, on Wednesday, December 25, revealed why his church does not believe in Christmas celebration.

The Herald gathered Olukoya said the celebration of Christmas is not stated in the bible. The pastor made this known at one of his sermons, “Manner Water Service” which coincided with the 2019 Christmas celebration, at the Church’s Headquarters in Lagos.

Olukoya maintained that no book in the bible recorded the word “Christmas” or that Jesus was born on December 25. According to the pastor, “If you really study the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, there is no word like Christmas.”

The pastor also said December 25 is a date originally set aside by the ancient Romans for the Mars festival by the worshipers of the sun. Olukoya said the birth of Christ was subsequently co-opted into the same date to give the Mars festival more popularity and then renamed “Christmas”.

Olukoya, however, warned modern Christians to stop promoting such an unscriptural celebration.

Earlier, The Herald reported that Daniel Olukoya, the Founder and General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, said Nigeria can only overcome its problems with God’s intervention.

Olukoya said this on Sunday at the international convention and 30th anniversary of the MFM held at its Prayer City, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The event also had in attendance Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

According to Olukoya, if Christians could pray more, the country would be in a better position.

He said: “We need divine intervention as a nation but I’m a believer of one Nigeria and I believe God has a purpose for where we are. I keep telling people that if we look at the map of Africa, it looks like a gun and Nigeria is at the trigger end of it, so God has a purpose for us and I believe if Christians pray more and do what they should do, everything will be fine.”
