A 29-year-old man, Segun Daniel, is presently wanted by the Ondo State Police Command for punching his mother-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Lajuwomi, to death over the custody of the child he had with the victim’s daughter.

Reports say Daniel had repeatedly objected to the living condition of his child in Lajuwomi’s home in a farm settlement in Igbotako, Okitupupa local government area, Ondo state.

But matters got to a head on Saturday when Daniel stormed the home shared by Mrs Lajuwomi, the mother of the child, Olamiotan Lajuwomi, and the child, and attempted to take the child away from them.

“On Saturday, he went to the house of his mother-in-law, where his wife and child were living, and wanted to take his child from the woman.

“But they did not allow him. This led to an argument between them, which degenerated into a free-for-all.

“During the fight, he punched the woman, who collapsed and, shortly after, she passed away,” an unnamed witness was quoted as saying by Vanguard.

The Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and disclosed that the suspect was on the run.

“Immediately after committing the crime, the suspect ran away and we have been looking for him. I am sure he will be arrested to face the full wrath of the law,” the police spokesman said.
