In Ondo an Isaac Ojo was remanded by a Magistrate’s Court in Akure, for allegedly raping and killing a trader, Mrs. Lydia Ayeni, on her farm in Ipe Akoko, in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The incident happened on February 28, 2018. Ayeni had gone to her farm that morning to work. When she did not return home by afternoon, a search party was organised to look for her.

The suspect allegedly raped the victim in the bush before killing her. Her corpse was reportedly found in the bush the following day.

“There was blood in her private parts. We saw signs that she struggled with somebody in the bush.

“It was later discovered that it was Ojo that carried out the dastardly act and he was arrested,” a village source said.

Mr. Martins Olowofeso, the police prosecutor, said the suspect killed the 45-year-old woman by hitting her in the head with a stone.

He noted that the offence was punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel, the magistrate, instructed that the accused be kept in prison until legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions was put forward.
