One dead after Boko Haram attack on Yobe village

The Boko Haram Islamists have killed a man and torched his house during a raid on a village in Yobe.

Police spokesman on Monday said the terrorists initially shot dead a man and burnt his thatched hut on the outskirts of the village.

Mr Toyin Gbadegesin, the Police spokesperson added that the terrorists attacked the police station where troops engaged them in a fight which forced them to retreat.

The raid was reported to have occurred around 01:00 am on Sunday with the Islamist group travelling in all-terrain vans.

The raided village, Babban Gida which is 50 km away from Damaturu, Yobe state capital has repeatedly been targeted by the Boko Haram group.

It is believed by Security Analysts that such raids as this by the Boko Haram sect is aimed at gathering food and petrol due to the disruption of their supply routed by the military.
