Awusam Bassey, a senior aide to Walter Onnoghen who was recently suspended by President Buhari, has reacted to allegations that the CJN has resigned.
He stated that this was not true and that his boss had not resigned and any outlet reporting that he did was peddling fake news.
“Mischief makers are still circulating this fake news. Once again, no truth in it whatsoever. The Hon CJN, Hon Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, GCON, has not resigned,” he said.

The CJN was replaced by Ibrahim Muhammad who was appointed by President Buhari.
This hasn’t gone down well with legal practitioners around the nation with the NBA declaring that they only recognize Onnoghen as the CJN.
There might be a looming boycott by lawyers with the NBA ordering such action on Tuesday and Wednesday in protest of the move by the President.
The NBA contends that the Executive did not follow due process in the suspension of the CJN, a cry that was echoed by the Senate who filed a suit with the Supreme court praying that the suspension be voided and held to be in breach of the constitution.
