Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere says that South-West governors have not displayed genuine interest in securing the geopolitical zone despite their perceived support for the creation of a security outfit codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’.

The group made this known Monday through its spokesman, Yinka Odumakin.

According to Afenifere, the governors and other political leaders in the zone would do well to push for regional autonomy as a lasting solution to insecurity in the zone.

Odumakin said that with ‘Operation Amotekun’, governors were only pretending to be interested in finding a solution.

The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere said, “They want to be seen to be doing something but they know that the issue is not about bringing some rag-tag men together and say you are doing ‘Amotekun’.

“It is about the leaders in the South-West, including governors to insist on the autonomy of Nigeria.”

The Herald recently quoted Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams as slamming the governors for not displaying a genuine commitment to the creation of the security outfit which is scheduled to be launched on Thursday, January 9.
