Orezi Opens Up on Career Decline: “I Became Less Ambitious”

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Orezi has shed light on the reasons behind his decline from the mainstream music spotlight, attributing it to a loss of ambition and a decision to step back from the industry’s competitive grind.
Speaking during a recent episode of Hip TV’s Trending, the “Ogede” crooner admitted that his career took a downturn because he became too comfortable and less driven.
“I faded out [of the music industry] because I became less ambitious and comfortable with where I am,” Orezi said. “I was always on vacation, enjoying myself. I took myself out of the competition.”
Highlighting the importance of consistency in the music business, Orezi cited Afrobeats superstar Davido as an example of relentless work ethic.
“Competition fuels consistency. Look at Davido, he hustles like an underground artist,” he said. “He has money and fame but he still maintains his hustling spirit.”
Orezi rose to fame in the mid-2010s with hits like “Rihanna” and “Shuperu,” but has been relatively quiet on the scene in recent years. His remarks come amid ongoing conversations about sustainability and reinvention in Nigeria’s ever-evolving music industry.
