Oshiomhole Runs To Tinubu To Save Him

Worried by the growing conspiracy against him within the party, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole has run to National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to save him.

Oshiomhole is currently under probe by the Department of State Services (DSS) after some governors that are against his continued stay as chairman reportedly accused him of receiving bribes to influence the outcome of the party’s primaries across the country.

This was said to have led the DSS to interrogate him for nine hours on Sunday, with another round of interrogation said to be imminent.

Oshiomhole left the country after Sunday’s interrogation and met Tinubu, one of those who backed him to succeed Chief John Odigie-Oyegun five months ago, in Paris, France on Thursday.

The Punch quoted a source as saying, “Tinubu and Oshiomhole met in Paris on Thursday over attempts by governors and some members of the NWC to remove the party chairman. You will recall that it was Asiwaju who paved the way for the emergence of Oshiomhole as the chairman when Chief Oyegun wanted a tenure extension.

“Now that he has come under probe by the DSS and is being asked to step aside, he has run to Tinubu to save him. It remains unclear what their strategy will be to put a stop to the probe.”

It was further reported that some aggrieved governors have been trying to instigate some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to compel Oshiomhole to step down pending the outcome of the DSS investigation.

“It is for this reason that the NWC members are being asked (by interested parties) to push for the suspension of the APC chairman pending the outcome of the probe. The President’s body language and actions in the coming days will determine Oshiomhole’s fate. For now, we are still considering it but we don’t want to make any hasty decision until we are sure that we have the President’s backing.”

Oshiomhole has vowed not to quit his position unless he loses the confidence of President Muhammadu Buhari.
