Osun 2026: APC’s Ajibola Basiru Denies Alliance Talks with Aregbesola

National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has dismissed reports suggesting he is in talks with former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, for a political alliance ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of his campaign organisation, Basiru described the reports as completely false and without foundation. He insisted that no reconciliation or alliance discussions had taken place between him and Aregbesola.

The statement stressed that such claims were not only inaccurate but also implausible, especially given that Aregbesola is no longer recognized as a member of the APC.
“It is unimaginable that Senator Ajibola Basiru would be engaging in political talks with someone who is no longer in our party,” the spokesperson stated.
Basiru is among the key aspirants vying for the APC governorship ticket in Osun State, with the party’s primary and the election set to take place in August 2026.
The denial comes amid heightened political activity and speculation in the state as the ruling APC prepares to challenge incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next electoral cycle.
