The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of abusing court processes in the ongoing local government crisis.
In a statement on Thursday, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, criticized Adeleke for allegedly disregarding the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which reinstated elected APC local government chairmen and councillors on February 10, 2025.
The APC claimed that Adeleke was behind lawsuits filed by local government officials from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who were elected during the February 22 local government elections.
The party also condemned the Osun chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for allegedly involving itself in a politically motivated matter.
According to the APC, NULGE’s legal action against the APC council officials—who were reinstated by the Court of Appeal—was an attempt to disrupt the local government administration in the state.
Governor Adeleke’s Actions Under Fire
The APC accused Adeleke of seeking a “compromising judicial officer” to overturn the appellate court’s decision through a lower court.
“If Governor Adeleke and his cohorts think they can thwart the judgment of a superior court through the back door, they will remain the perpetual jokers of the century,” the APC stated.
The party argued that if the governor had a legitimate grievance, he should have taken the matter to the Supreme Court instead of allegedly influencing lower court proceedings.
Legal Battle Continues
Meanwhile, PDP local council officials had approached an Osun State High Court in Ikirun to challenge the presence of APC council officials in local government secretariats.
Additionally, the Osun chapter of NULGE filed a lawsuit at the High Court in Ilesa over what it described as the “forceful invasion and illegal occupation” of council secretariats by APC officials from the previous administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
The APC maintained that Adeleke must learn to work with the reinstated chairmen and councillors, stating, “The reinstated local government chairmen and councillors have come to stay, and the earlier Governor Adeleke co-governs with them, the better for him.”
