Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel is not impressed by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration and he is not hiding it.
In a sermon during the church’s service at its international headquarters in Ota, Ogun State on Sunday, the fiery cleric said that the government was attempting to criminalise hate speech while doing nothing to halt killing of innocent Nigerians by armed groups.
He was reacting to the Hate Speech Bill currently before the Senate.
The bishop described the present administration as directionless and like a curse, saying its days were numbered.
Oyedepo said, “The government in this country is making a draconian law – hate speech. They said if you speak hatefully, you have committed murder. Out of someone who says I will kill you and the one who kills, who has committed a crime? I don’t understand which kind of animal farm we live in.
“I said stop stepping on my toes and you said that is hate speech but somebody kills and he is walking free on the streets. This is the most stupid and nonsensical ideal anybody can think of.
“I said you are bad and you said that is a crime. Must I say you are good when you are bad?

It is worrying that somebody will be accused of hate-speech if he complains about the killings and other atrocities going on in Nigeria, whereas the people perpetrating the killings are moving freely without any sight of bringing them to book. Calling a spade a spade in Nigeria is now a crime, and it’s worrying because it is happening under the watch of one that claims he fights corruption. What an irony!
