Ozil Was Not Injured for West Ham, I Left him Out- Emery

Arsenal coach Unai Emery has said that he left Mesut Ozil out of the team that lost to West Ham, not because of injury, but for different reasons.

The playmaker who returned to full training this week was left out of the 18-man squad that fell to Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham.

Declan Rice was the hero of the day after he curled a pass from former Gunner, Samir Nasri past Bernd Leno.

“I decided the players who are the best for this match. We win with him and lose with him. Not one player is for sale.” Emery said after the game.

“He’s working this week normally. Like I said we win with him and lose with him. Today the decision is to come with these players.”

And after another defeat away from home, Emery has also conceded that the Gunners’ away form is a source of worry to him.

“It is disappointing, it is a concern,” he said. “We need to be competitive both home and away. Away we are not taking the results we want.

“We had to do more today to impose ourselves. If we can be better in the 90 minutes – competitive and quality – we can do it.

“We lost the ball a lot in the middle. We could improve in the second, but their goal changed the game. They did good work in defence.”
