State governors under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have urged the federal government to declare Nigeria’s economic recession a national emergency.

Abdulaziz Yari, chairman of the forum and governor of Zamfara, said this in a three-point communiqué in Abuja on Friday.

They also urged the federal government to “as a matter of urgency” tackle the resurgence of polio and Lassa fever.

The governors disclosed that they have agreed to set up state task forces on polio eradication, with their deputies as heads.

They also expressed their commitment to the payment of their states’ counterpart funds in order to meet their obligations towards the eradication of polio.

Yari said his colleagues also discussed the recurring incident of Lassa fever and resolved to collaborate with the ministry of health to address the challenge.
