The Nasarawa State government is to commence payment of gratuities and pensions to retirees as well as death benefits to family members of deceased officers in the state public service.

This was made known in a press conference by the state Head of Service, Mr. Thomas Ogiri Ari who said the money was sourced from the Paris Club refunds that accrued to the state. He said the payment is aimed at bringing relief and to alleviate the sufferings of the retirees and their family members.

Mr. Ari attributed the release of the N300m to the magnanimity of the state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, noting that the amount will be released on a quarterly basis.

He revealed that to ensure the success of the exercise a committee has been set up, consisting of two teams to commence the payment, starting from Wednesday 12th April 2017.

He said widows and widowers, the sick and the aged, as well as people living with disabilities, will be given priorities in the payment.

He, therefore, urged beneficiaries to make available necessary identification documents for verification and payment.
