Pastor’s son dragged to court for stealing electricity into father’s church

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a pastor’s son, Alexander Idiaghe in Mpape Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged theft of electricity energy.

Idiageha of Jahi 1 village, Abuja, is facing a count charge bordering on theft.

The prosecutor, Mbukwen Augustine, told the court that one Augustine Ubani, staff of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Apo Regional Office, on Aug. 18, reported the matter at the Mabushi Police Station.

According to Augustine, the complainant said that on the same date, at about 10.00p.m., while on patrol to monitor the company’s network, he discovered that the defendant had made an illegal connection into his father’s church.

The prosecutor further alleged that on inspection, it was discovered that the defendant had been consuming electricity in the said premises without paying for it, or authorisation from the company.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Hassan Muh’d, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000, with a surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned until Sept.24 for hearing. (NAN)
