PDP Condemns Kwara SUBEB Chairman for Allegedly Humiliating Teachers During School Visit
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it described as an act of “public humiliation” allegedly carried out by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWASUBEB), Professor Raheem Adaramaja, at the Government Day Secondary School, Amule.
According to eyewitnesses, Professor Adaramaja reportedly compelled teachers — including the Vice Principal — to sweep the school premises in the presence of students during an inspection visit. He allegedly accused the staff of neglecting cleanliness and ordered them to pick up dirt despite their explanation that the students had just returned from break.
In a statement signed by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party described the chairman’s action as “a severe abuse of office and public degradation of hardworking educators who already operate under difficult conditions.”
The party questioned whether Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq endorsed such conduct, adding that the incident undermines the respect due to the teaching profession in the state.
“To have a Professor — a former teacher himself — compel teachers to perform menial tasks before their students is an act of moral bankruptcy and insensitivity,” the statement read.
The PDP called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to defend its members and demanded an unreserved public apology from Adaramaja to the affected teachers and the entire teaching community in Kwara State.
In his response, the NUT Chairman of Ilorin East branch, Comrade Saka Saafi Adanla, expressed solidarity with the teachers, describing the incident as “unacceptable and demeaning.” He assured that the union’s state leadership is aware of the situation and is working to ensure the protection of teachers’ rights and dignity.
“We condemn this behaviour in the strongest terms and demand a public apology from the SUBEB Chairman,” Adanla stated.
The controversy has since sparked public outrage, with many calling on the state government to take disciplinary action against the SUBEB boss.
