PDP Crisis: Jonathan moves to render 7 ‘rebel governors’ ineffective

2 Min Read

The Presidency is reportedly making clandestine moves to render useless the seven rebel governors by terminating the executives of the PDP chapters in their respective states.

The governors expected to be affected by the fell swoop are Sule Lamido(Jigawa);   Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto);   Rabiu Kwakwanso (Kano);  Aliyu Babangida (Niger);  and   Abdulfatah Ahmed(Kwara).

The Presidency is said to be making the moves due to its belief that the peace talks had already failed and were just a formality.

An Aso Villa source told journalists that the submission of the report of the elders’ committee headed by former President Obasanjo and comprising Ibrahim Babangida, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, Chief Tony Anenih and  Sen. Barnabas Gemade might just be a mere formality.

The source said,  “It is the view of the committees that we needed to use carrot and stick before and it was apparent that  that has failed.

“So, what we would do now is the stick approach. The world knows that the governors are fighting us and  we need not to pretend anymore that we are not together.

“That is why we opted for the complete dissolution of the state executive committees of at least five of the   states.”

Adamawa and Rivers state PDP chapters had already been wrested from their respective governors and handed over to forces loyal to the President.
