PDP Reaffirms Unity, Says Party’s Strength Lies in the People, Not Individuals
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports of alleged planned defections by some of its governors, insisting that the party remains united and strong ahead of its 2025 National Convention.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary and Secretary of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the convention, Debo Ologunagba, made this known during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Thursday.
Ologunagba described the rumours of defection as “orchestrated distractions” allegedly sponsored by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that the PDP’s foundation is rooted in the people, not in the ambitions of individuals.
He said the public attention surrounding the reports only reflected the growing national interest in the PDP and its activities, adding that the party had weathered more turbulent moments in the past.
“Let me say this — the stories of defection or possible defection that are catching Nigerians’ attention show that we have a political master,” Ologunagba said. “Because of the foundation of the PDP, which is strong, solid, and based on the people, we remain the only truly democratic party in this country — one built on ideas, convictions, and policies.”
He further recalled that even when top figures such as presidents and vice-presidents left the party in the past, the PDP endured because it was founded on enduring democratic values rather than personal ambitions.
