The warring factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have agreed to a temporary truce so as to buy time for the reconciliation of the members’ anxiety within the party.
This is according to the resolution reached by the members at a meeting held at the Presidential villa, Abuja on Sunday.
In a communique issued after the meeting by the factions, it was agreed that the members should desist from derogatory comments pending the time the problems are expected to be completely solved.
The G-7 governors present at the meeting are; Kwara state, Abdulfattah Ahmed; Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako; Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi; Kano Stat, Rabiu Kwakwanso; Jigawa State; Sule Lamido and Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu who read the communique.
On the other side, in attendance were President Jonathan; Vice-President Namadi Sambo, and the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih with the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP governors of Cross River, Liyel Imoke; Akwa Ibom State Godswill Akpabio and Idris Wada of kogi State.
The communique read in part, “With a view to resolving the recent crisis in our party and sequel to the number of meetings convened by leaders and stakeholders and the governors of Adamawa, Niger, Rivers, Kwara, Sokoto, Jigawa, Akwa Ibom, Kogi, Kano and Cross Rivers states met with the President, the Vice -President and the chairman of the BOT and extensively deliberated on various issues over a three -day period.
“The meetings were cordial and deliberations fruitful with a clear commitments on all sides to resolve all issues raised at the meetings.
“The meeting also called on all parties to sheath their swords and avoid further inflammatory comments on issues particularly during the course of our deliberations as we have all agreed to resolve all the differences.
“In the interim, all parties have accepted to commence immediate action and agreed towards complete resolution of all matters and continue to meet until all processes toward reconciliation are concluded amicably.”
“We will make sure and ensure that there is progress in resolving the crisis,” they agreed.
It will be recalled that the Baraje-led New PDP had revealed that only two or three of the demands had partially been addressed in the last meeting. The members had threatened to shun further reconciliation attempts if the previous and new demands were not given maximum attention.
