Pep Was Right to Drop Toure- DeBruyne Responds to Yaya Toure Controversy

Belgian midfielder, Kevin DeBruyne has waded into the controversy surrounding Ivorian legend, Yaya Toure and Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola.

The African star had expressed his disappointment in the Spaniard and questioned whether he had a problem with African players.

Toure started just once in Manchester City’s record-breaking season and that was after the title was already wrapped up and he accused the Spanish tactician of harbouring some jealousy towards him.

But backing his manager’s choices, DeBruyne who was Manchester City’s player of the season stated that with the results produced, no one could argue that Pep was right in his decision to drop Toure.

“I don’t know what Yaya said or if it’s wrongly written or exaggerated. When you don’t play there’s always something you try to find,” the Belgium midfielder told BBC World Football.

“We had the best season ever, so in the end the coach took the right decision to play with the team who played a lot.

“So, this year the trainer probably thought he [Yaya] wasn’t doing enough, wasn’t fit enough. ”

Yaya Toure has now left Manchester City after winning 3 league titles with them and it remains to be seen where his next club will be.
