Peter Obi-Goodluck Jonathan Alliance for 2027: Obidient Movement Debunks Rumours
The Obidient Movement has moved swiftly to quell speculation surrounding a potential political alliance between its leader, former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Amid intense rumours that the two political heavyweights were planning a joint strategy to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, the movementās leadership insists their meetings are purely “platonic.”
No Pact to Remove Tinubu, Says Obidient Coordinator
Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, categorically stated on Sunday that there is no pact or alliance talk underway between Obi and Jonathan.
Tanko confirmed that the two principals share a “very good working relationship” and know each other well, which naturally leads to discussions. However, he stressed that this relationship should not be “translated to mean anything” beyond friendly dialogue on national progress.
“My principal and the former president have a very good working relationship… seeing them talk to each other does not mean anything,” Tanko clarified. “No discussion or pact around 2027.” He even cited a meeting in Ghana, which he attended, to reinforce that the engagement was not political.
Rumours Fueled by High-Stakes Meetings
The political alignment rumours gained significant traction following a recent closed-door meeting between Jonathan and Obi.
Additionally, the former President has been the subject of his own 2027 speculation, with talks suggesting a potential return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or even a surprising move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Jonathan recently met with ADC leaders, including National Chairman David Mark, in Abuja.
Peter Obi’s own political future remains officially fluid, as he is yet to declare his party for the next election cycle. He is currently an active member of both the Labour Party and the opposition coalition that has adopted the ADC.
